Evaluating Our Target Audience

Our film will still target the audience from 16-30’s.
A probable mixed male and female audience as the
genre we picked for our film can cater for both.

We imagine that our audience would have watched films
with a similar plot or atmosphere as ours, such as; ‘Black Swan’,
‘Insidious’ etc. They’ll be looking for a similar psychological
twisting thriller to watch.

We imagine our audience to be entertained by 15 types of films, as well as making them think and build their own opinions and conclusions. Older age groups tend to prefer a film with an actual story line to work out and judge as well as being entertained by it.

Thrillers are more appealing for males stereotypically. However psychological thrillers could appeal to women more as women tend to prefer psychological suspense to physical violence and action.

I do believe the target audience is a mixed gender and would still be 16-mid 30’s. The audience would need to understand the story line and the plot to gain something from the film and I believe these ages are perfect for our film. Horror isn’t suitable for children nor old people as they could get seriously affected or disturbed by the content.

Psychological thrillers therefore target quite a large age range. I find it’s aimed at more towards the older teens and young adults than a more older generation as it relies on being made to create fear.

Our target audience would be looking out for latest interviews with the cast and looking for the trailer to get a taste of our film. They look for different films which are currently popular and upcoming for them to go and see. They will find interviews in film magazines and trailers on social networking sites such as facebook, or internet sites such as YouTube. They look for films which re the subject of internet chat and might achieve a high status.
